Blocked drains

Reported via desktop in the Other (non-highways) category anonymously at 10:42, Thu 25 August 2022

Sent to Hampshire County Council and Hart District Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3779675.

In the last week we have had significant rain on two occasions. On Thursday 18th August it rained so hard that water was running off Stevens Hill into Round Close, then down Caswall Ride and into Bannister Gardens. None of the drains could cope with the amount of water because the drains are all blocked with leaves and debris. Consequently the rain water built up at the bottom of Bannister Gardens and flooded at least three houses. Today (25th August) the same thing happened except fortunately the two drains at the bottom of Bannister Gardens could cope with the amount of water even though all the other drains are still blocked.

Updates

  • Hampshire highways sent someone to identify the drains that need unblocking. Since then our street has flooded again with several houses suffering water ingression. The problem was reported again and we were told the priority would be elevated. We are still waiting for action!!

  • Drains have been marked with paint but I am not aware that they have been unblocked. There hasn't been any heavy rain so I can't say whether the problem is resolved.

  • A tanker lorry came round last week and spent 2 days attempting to unblock the drains. However when I was walking my dog 2 days ago, it was raining quite heavily and I noticed a drain in Caswell Ride where the water was right up to the top.

  • We have not had a heavy rainfall, so I don't know if the drain is still blocked.

  • Since my last feedback there has been some heavy rain. The previously reported blocked drains are still blocked. Therefore the rain water still flows down Bannister Gardens like a river.

  • We have not had any heavy rain so I cannot tell if the problem still exists.

  • We had rain last week and I noticed two drains in Caswell Ride were full of water up to the grills. This is why water floods down Bannister Gardens when we have heavy rain.
